A strong home-school partnership is encouraged and valued at Balwyn North Primary School and there are endless opportunities for parents to be involved in the life of the school and their child’s learning. Regular parent information sessions, learning expos, student-led conferences, music soirees and concerts provide parents with a window into their child’s education.
I have been privileged to be the School Council President over the past several years. Working with the School Leadership and our other Parent Councillors, we have formed a highly collaborative team, passionate in making our school outstanding— encouraging and guiding our children to be exceptional individuals. We want BNPS to be a happy, vibrant, productive, and multi-cultural school: a place where our children feel safe and know they are being supported by a whole school community.
Dr Bill Young – School Council President
At BNPS, we have an enthusiastic group of parents who make up our Parents and Friends Association (PFA). The PFA is involved in a range of activities, from fundraising to social and community events. It aims to support the school to provide an ideal learning environment for students, teachers, staff and the wider community.
Events typically organised by the PFA include:
The funds raised by the PFA contribute to the significant improvements to our school. In recent years, funds have been allocated for installing air-conditioning, building the vegetable garden, renovating our junior toilet block, refurbishing the school library, and landscaping the entrance to the school. Currently, the PFA is raising money for the resurfacing of our basketball courts.
The PFA Committee is elected each year, with positions for President, Treasurer, Secretary and General Committee members. The Committee meets at most once a month and all parents are invited to attend the meeting. Notices are placed in the School Bulletin and sent via WhatsApp to parents.
As the PFA membership is always changing when students graduate, all parents are invited to attend and join the Committee or lend a hand at events. The old adage “many hands make light work” is certainly true with the PFA. At the commencement of each school year, the PFA holds a morning tea, which is a good chance for all parents to meet our Committee members and find out more about what we do.
The PFA is a great way to make friends within the BNPS community, help others, and improve our school for our children.
We hope to see you soon,
Dr. Shinn Dee YU - Parents and Friends Association President
